Advent Meditation Concert
Entrer more deeply into the mysteries of God, the world, and yourself through music!
An original production by a textile artist and a string quartet
Featuring a quartet composed of musicians from Montreal’s I Musici orchestra
From left to right: Christian Prévost, Marie-Ève Poupart, Madeleine Messier and Tim Halliday.
Marie-Ève Poupart has performed as a soloist with the OSM, OM and OSTR, and in countries around the world as a chamber musician. She has been a violinist with Montreal’s I Musici since 2013; in 2018, she and her partner founded Quintessence, a group that composes and performs its own classical, folk and spiritual songs. A recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, Marie-Ève was also awarded the Canada Council for the Arts’ 1700 Tononi Bell violin.
Christian Prévost has been a member of Montreal’s I Musici orchestra since 1985. He is frequently invited to play for other orchestras and partners with artists in classical and popular music circles. He also forms a duo with singer-songwriter Lucie Dubé.
Madeleine Messier has played the violin forMontreal’s I Musici since 1987. She studied at the University of Montreal and Concordia University. She is a freelancer with various ensembles in Quebec.
Tim Halliday has been a slave to the cello since the age of 4. At the age of 14, he was appointed to the London (ON) Orchestra. Following his studies at McGill University with Marcel St-Cyr and Antonio Lysy, he joined Montreal’s I Musici orchestra in 1995. Now he finds himself very busy as the father of two wonderful teenagers. All four of these musucians love playing at the heart of I Musici – their musical family – but they also treasure opportunities when they can play together in even more intimate contexts, such as in this string quartet. Enjoy this unique musical and artistic moment with us!
Trained in craft techniques at the Maison des métiers d’art de Québec and having studied theology, artist Ivon Bellavance will help you touch a mystery for contemplated through his live artistic creation during the performance. He is particularly interested in scenography, through which he has fashioned an approach that led him to create several material artworks, notably for the director Robert Lepage and Cirque du Soleil. Today, his work combines spirituality and the art of textiles. The staging of music and visual art will stimulate your senses and engage your whole being in a time of meditation.

Taizé Prayer Retreat
An Explore Saturday
Facilitated by Gabriel Côté, S.J. and a team of young Jesuits
Learn, experience, and share with others the riches of prayer in the contemplative musical tradition of Taizé! Since 1940, when Frère Roger Schultz founded the Taizé Community, the monastic reality at the heart of this ecumenical movement has grown to over ninety brothers from over twenty different countries and many different churches and ecclesial communities. Tens of thousands of of young people trek to the village of Taizé, France, every year to learn and pray with the brothers who welcome them into the joy of their communal faith experience.
For several years now, the Villa Saint-Martin has offered regular day-long and weekend opportunities for people to gather as a community to praise and reverence the Lord together. This particular Saturday experience is marked by four offices (prayer sessions) from the Taizé liturgy of the hours. Points for personal prayer will also be offered, as well as an opportunity, at the end of the day, to share the fruits of your prayer with others. The rest of the day is spent in silence, including during meals. Those who wish have the opportunity to meet with a priest for a conversation and/or the sacrament of reconciliation.
Cost: $ 45 includes lunch and the day’s activities

Holy Thursday: Bread of the World
On the night of the first passover, God instructed the Israelites to gird their loins and feast on the passover lamb, eating an unleavened bread that was to be spare and prepared in haste. When the Israelites that God had set free were hungry, God gave them manna, the “bread of angels” which appeared with the lifting of the dewfall. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the house of bread, and at his birth he was placed in a feeding trough for animals. Jesus multiplied loaves for a hungry people, proclaiming to them that he is himself the bread of life, and at the last supper, he offers a new “bread of angels,” through which he will be present until he comes again.
Join us for a day-long retreat in which we prepare for the mysteries of the Lord’s supper by entering more deeply into the spiritual reality that simple bread offers us. We will make bread and share it as we seek to encounter the one who makes himself known through the breaking of the bread. The retreat begins at 9 am and ends before supper.
